About Me
My name is Aparna John, and I am currently pursuing a Master of Design in Photography at the National Institute of Design. Prior to pursuing Photography Design, I completed my undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the LBS Institute of Technology for Women in Thiruvananthapuram. From high school till my bachelor's degree, I was always part of the National Service Scheme, working with communities and organizations from different sections of society. A strange fascination for Human beings and their stories started evolving inside me, humanity had such long spectrum and I was in search for meaning. As Agnes Varda rightly quoted "If you opened people up we'd find Landscapes".

My journey in exploring diverse communities and histories has been both enriching and transformative. From my engagements with the Jewish community of Ahmedabad to documenting the ancient port towns of Gujarat and delving into the cultural tapestry of the Korku tribal community of Madhya Pradesh, each experience has deepened my understanding of the nuances of storytelling and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

As an artist, I am driven by a profound curiosity about the human experience and the ephemeral nature of memory and identity. My creative process is deeply rooted in the exploration of themes such as loss, cultural preservation, and the passage of time. Through image-making, I seek to engage in a dialogue with my subconscious mind, unraveling layers of meaning and confronting existential anxieties.

Apart from a Visual Designer as a constant learner, I always keep apart time to learn new skills and crafts. My interests spreads from Conservation, Archiving, History Research, Music Research, Pottery making, Print making, Book Making, Traveling to many sectors which always adds perspectives to my projects.
